Despite not being advertised as such, HTC’s flagship devices in 2014 and 2015 — the One M8 and One M9 — could survive a spill of liquid thanks to their IPX3 rating. The HTC 10 shares the same Ingress Protection rating as them, which makes it splash-proof.

In fact, the HTC 10 has an IP53 rating which means that the handset is capable of protecting itself from dust ingress in most of the situations. It is not exactly dust-proof, but an IP rating of 5 is still good enough for daily use. The ‘3’ in the 10’s IP53 rating is the same as HTC’s previous flagship devices making the handset splash resistant. So, you cannot really take the HTC 10 to shower with you or dunk it in water, but the handset does have a chance of surviving accidental water spills provided the liquid does not spill on the phone at an angle not greater than 60-degrees (vertically). Not as good as the Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 edge, but this should still be good enough in most cases. Plus, if you end up liquid damaging your phone somehow, you can always fall back on HTC’s Uh Oh plan and request a replacement handset from the company.
