HTC will soon announce a little device called the “Fetch”. It’s basically a tiny keychain that’s Bluetooth enabled. If your smartphone loses its connection with the fetch, it’ll start making an audible noise and it’ll record its current location. Sounds great, right? One catch. You have to remember to change the battery every six months. Yes, I said change. The Fetch uses CR2032 batteries, which should be pretty easy to find at any corner shop, but still, once your charge runs out, are you going to remember to get a new one?

No word on pricing or when this thing actually comes out, but according to The Verge, Nokia will soon be launching roughly the same thing. Nokia’s version will be called “Treasure Tag”, and it’ll have NFC so you don’t have to worry about entering Bluetooth codes. Will this product category take off? Your guess is as good as mine. Personally, I don’t use a key ring. The one key I have to get into my apartment rests in my wallet.
