HTC has not had the best run as of late. What was once the leader of the Android space hasn’t led the pack in many years, and the company is planning on a pretty big change next year. HTC Taiwan President, Darren Chen, says that the company is planning on a “reboot” of smartphone sales beginning in the first half of 2019. The company has a goal to improve profitability and marketshare, and, to get there, will be focusing on mid-range and high-end devices. We will see the company launch a new member of the U12+ family, but details on that device remain light at this point. How are things looking for HTC right now as it relates to its latest devices? Well, according to Chen, HTC’s first blockchain phone, the Exodus 1, sold out its first batch, which sounds pretty good — but there’s no word on just how many devices that actually is. Meanwhile, the U12 Life has seen what Chen calls “robust” sales since it launched back in November. But again, the details are pretty thin. But all of that sounds like a good stepping stone leading into 2019. Will it matter, though? Samsung’s presence might be flagging in some areas because of companies like OnePlus and Huawei, but the company is still leading the charge for now. But that doesn’t mean the presence of OnePlus, Huawei, and other Android manufacturers should be ignored. Can HTC compete with them in 2019 and beyond? What do you think?
