Software updates are something I usually don’t cover, but I make exceptions for the big ones. HTC’s One shipped with Android 4.1, whereas Samsung’s GS4 shipped with Android 4.2. Most normal people don’t care about this, but you’re reading Android Beat, which instantly makes you a freak. According to Three UK, HTC had an update to Android 4.2.2 planned, but they decided to pull it at the last minute. What’s worse is that the company didn’t provide a schedule as to when the update will eventually be pushed out.

According to Engadget, who contacted HTC, 4.2.2 is still indeed going to come, but like Three UK said, there’s no exact timing as to when. Ideally HTC would hold the update until they ironed out all the bugs. There’s also the question of Android 4.3, which is supposed to be right around the corner. Will HTC support that at some point?

— ThreeUK (@ThreeUK) June 17, 2013 Like I said earlier, most people aren’t going to care about which version of Android their device runs, they just want to make sure they have a stable device that does everything they need it to do. Yes, Samsung has a better track record with software updates, but then again HTC devices don’t usually have a ton of bugs.
