HTC has just issued what the financial industry likes to call “guidance”. The company is required, by law, to tell investors what to expect in the next quarter. And I hate to break it to you HTC fans, but they’re likely going to experience their first quarter of losses since taking the company public in 2002.
How bad is bad? An operating margin of between 0% to negative 8%, which is a pretty big window, but no one really knows what to expect between now and the end of September. Actually, let’s think about this, what exactly is going to happen between now and the end of the third quarter? Motorola is going to announce the Moto X on August 1st. LG is going to announce the G2 on August 7th. Samsung is going to announce the Note III in September. Sony is going to announce the Honami in September. Apple may or may not announce the next iPhone and the “cheap” iPhone. Am I leaving something out?
