Huawei has managed to ship more than 100 million smartphones in the first three quarters of 2017. Combined with the slowdown in iPhone sales, the company has managed to surpass Apple as the world’s second largest smartphone maker in the world for a while.
This represents a 19 percent YoY increase in its sales compared to the previous year. Huawei has also managed to increase its retail footprint by 19 percent and it now has 42,300 retail stores worldwide. Huawei’s growth has largely been due to its budget and mid-range devices which are doing exceedingly well in markets like China, Europe, and other Asian countries. However, the company has also beefed up its efforts in the high-end segment as there is a higher profit margin there. The company recently unveiled the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro for the European market which are packed to the brim with top-notch internals and features. The company expects to upgrade its brand image on these flagship devices and create a name for itself in more markets across the world. Based on this rapid growth, Huawei’s CEO Richard Yu is confident that the company will surpass Samsung to become the world’s largest smartphone maker. Huawei definitely has managed to create a name for itself in the smartphone market in recent years. The company has had a meteoric rise in the smartphone market while other more renowned players like LG, Nokia, and Motorola have struggled to even stay afloat. With the iPhone X sales being limited due to supply issues, its possible that Huawei will once again surpass Apple to become the world’s second largest smartphone maker in the last quarter of 2017.
