After much hype and leaks, the OnePlus 5 was made official by the company today. Like the OnePlus 3/3T, the OnePlus 5 is an impressive smartphone for the specs it packs despite its higher price tag this time around.
With a price tag upwards of $500, the OnePlus 5 is not as cheap as the OnePlus 3 from last year. OnePlus is justifying the increase in price by including a dual camera setup on the handset. Sadly, while the company is aiming to offer a flagship-like experience with the OnePlus 5 this year at a price far lower than that, it seems to have missed including one key new feature on the handset: an IP65/68 certification. The lack of any IP certification means the OnePlus 5 is not dust or water-resistant like almost every other major flagship smartphone released this year. For a company that claims to launch flagship killers, it is a bit disappointing to see the OnePlus 5 lack any kind of waterproofing. With a price tag of $479 though, it is likely that OnePlus had to sacrifice including water-resistant capabilities on the OnePlus 5 in favour of a dual-camera setup and other improvements. Are you disappointed that the OnePlus 5 is not water-resistant? Or do you think the company’s move to include a dual-camera setup on the phone was a better move? Drop a comment and let us know!
