Earlier today, OnePlus unveiled the OnePlus 6 — the successor to the OnePlus 5T from last year. The handset is a major step up from its predecessor in terms of the design department. OnePlus has gone with a glass panel at the rear similar to almost every other major flagship launched over the last few months.
Over the last one year, there’s only been one notable omission from the OnePlus 5/5T’s spec sheet: lack of waterproofing. While tests had shown that the OnePlus 5T had a certain degree of water-resistance, it did not have any official IP certification. What about the OnePlus 6 though? Does it feature an IP certification? Well, while OnePlus has made improvements to the water resistance capabilities of the OnePlus 6, it is still not water-resistant. OnePlus says that the OnePlus 6 features “daily water resistance,” though it lacks an official IP certification. What does this exactly mean? Well, as per OnePlus, the OnePlus 6 can easily survive being used in light rain, but you should not dunk the phone in water and expect the phone to survive. I’d say that it is quite disappointing to see the OnePlus 6 lack an official IP certification. The handset also lacks wireless charging despite coming with a glass back design which is another bummer. What do you think about the lack of proper water-resistance on the OnePlus 6?
