The OnePlus 7 Pro and the OnePlus 7 were finally launched yesterday. Compared to previous OnePlus offerings, the OnePlus 7 Pro is a major step up in every aspect. While the specs of the handset are pretty clear, there’s a lot of confusion on whether the OnePlus 7 Pro is water-resistant or not.
The confusion stems from the fact that the OnePlus 7 Pro — and the OnePlus 7 — lack an IP certification. This means they have not been certified water or dust-resistant. However, before launching the OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus released a teaser video in which it dropped the phone in a bucket full of water. The company’s co-founder Pete Lau then revealed that since IP certification would have increased the final price of the phone, the company decided against it. From the video that OnePlus had posted, it is clear that the OnePlus 7 Pro can withstand a small liquid/water-related accident. So, does that mean the OnePlus 7 Pro is water-resistant? Well, kind of. But there’s a catch.
If you ever accidentally drop your OnePlus 7 Pro in a bucket of water or spill some liquid on it, the phone should emerge unscathed from the accident. However, this does not mean that you should go around dropping the phone in water. That’s because the standard warranty from OnePlus does not cover any kind of liquid damage. So, if you ever end up causing any kind of liquid damage to your OnePlus 7 Pro, you will have to pay from your own pocket to get it repaired. Note that I am not talking about salt water here because that’s another ball game entirely. Irrespective of what the IP capabilities of your phone are, always keep it away from salt water as there are hundreds of other factors which come into play that can damage your phone permanently. Consider the water-resistance capabilities of the OnePlus 7 Pro as a backup. Do not try it or keep testing it because if something ever goes wrong, you are the one who is going to pay to get it fixed.
