LG announced the G4 late last month running Android 5.1 Lollipop and the its own UX 4.0 on top of it. The latest version of LG’s UX builds on its predecessor with a streamlined design and smart new features. LG has not confirmed whether its last year’s flagship, the G3, will get the UX 4.0 update down the line or not. In all probability though, the company will bring at least some of the new features from its latest UX to its 2014 flagship sometime later this year. Thanks to XDA developer LastStandingDroid though, LG G3 owners can enjoy all the new apps from the company’s UX 4.0 on their handset right away.
The developer has packaged all the new system apps in UX 4.0, including the new Music player, Contacts, Camera app, Keyboard and more in individual ZIP files so that G3 owners can only replace the system apps they want. Sadly, the manual mode of the new camera app seems to be only partially working on the G3. This is likely due to the driver being incompatible with all the new APIs introduced by Google in Lollipop. For now, the UX 4.0 apps from the LG G4 only work on the V20l firmware for the G3, which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. If you have not already guessed it, root access is needed to install the apps. The download link and installation instructions for the different UX 4.0 apps can be found here.
