LG might not have announced any high-end handset at MWC this week, but the company’s executive sure did reveal a lot about the LG G4 and a new high-end handset that will be placed even higher than the G-series. Cho Juno, head of LG’s smartphone division, said that the company’s upcoming flagship — the G4 — will be significantly different from the G3. He further added that the handset will come with a new external design as well as a completely brand new version of the company’s UX. Additionally, Cho told reporters in Korea that the company will be focusing on designing and developing its own chipset that it plans to incorporate in its future devices. The company is taking this step to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm, which is currently the sole supplier of chipsets for its devices. More surprisingly though, Cho said in an interview with reporters at MWC that LG will be launching a new flagship handset in the second half of this year that will “stand above the G series.” This new handset will be priced slightly higher than the G4 and come with better internals and build quality. It will be interesting to see how LG’s upcoming G4 will differ from other Android devices in the market, and what the company’s new premium smartphone will pack.
